Traffic Pattern

Dear Parents,

The safety and security of all students in the Willoughby-Eastlake City School District is our primary concern.  With that being said, the staff at the Willoughby-Eastlake Preschool at the Northern Career Institute is asking for your help and cooperation with our drop off and pick up procedures.  These procedures apply only to families who drive their students to and from the Willoughby-Eastlake Preschool Program.  

With the help of the Eastlake Chief of Police, Chief of Fire, and the entire Preschool Staff, we believe we have developed a safe, effective and efficient procedure for the students at the preschool.  Beginning the first day of school, Monday, August 26, 2024, we ask that families approach the Willoughby-Eastlake Preschool from Willowick Drive rather than Route 91 (SOM Center Road).  This will allow the traffic pattern to be moving in the same direction.  From Willowick Drive turn right onto Glen Drive. You will then turn right into the west end of the preschool parking lot.  Utilizing a single file line, cars will circle around to the side door of the preschool where the students will be dropped off and picked up.  Each vehicle will display the last name of the student on the passenger side visor so that the staff can see the last name and corresponding color of the child’s classroom. Each day, the same staff will be awaiting the students and will ensure that the students get to their designated classroom.  At pick-up, again, the children will be delivered to their car which will be delineated by the child's last name and classroom color.  Upon pick-up, the parent will buckle the child in their car or booster seat.  Families are requested to exit the parking lot through the same exit and turn right onto Glen Drive.  Please see the attached map for details.

In addition, please remember the following to make your child’s arrival and dismissal to school as safe and quick as possible:

• Please arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to the arrival or dismissal time for the morning and afternoon preschool sessions.
• Please have your name card EASILY visible in your front passenger side window.
• Please put your car in park and then assist your child to exit or enter the vehicle.
• Please pull next to the sidewalk when possible and remain in a single file line. We request that you do NOT go around other vehicles.  
• Please do NOT block the driveways of the residents of Willowick and Glen Drive while waiting to drop off or pick up preschool students.  We request that you wait in the tree lawn areas to not block the driveways of residents.

If dropping off or picking up students outside of the window of time when staff are in the parking lot, you will need to park your vehicle and walk your student to the main entrance of the preschool program.  Please note that it is important for your child to be present for the entirety of the school session.
